Q: What does the schedule look like?
A: Each open studio session is 2 hours long. The first 5–10 minutes are utilized by the facilitator, who will introduce herself, share the day’s theme, and outline available project options. Throughout the session, you’ll receive time updates: a halfway reminder, a 15-minute warning, and a final 5-minute notice to begin cleaning up.

Q: Who can sign up, and do children need an adult to supervise them?
A: Participants ages 8–12 are welcome to join but must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the session. Teens ages 13 and up may attend independently without supervision.

Q: What does open studio mean?
A: In an open studio, ticketholders are welcome to use any of the art materials available in the space.

Q: How many people can attend an open studio session?
A: Studio space is limited, so each session can accommodate a maximum of 10 participants. We recommend signing up early to reserve your spot.

Q: Can I purchase a ticket in person before the event?
A: Tickets may be purchased only online before the event. Tickets may be purchased in person only at the event if space is available. Participants buying tickets on-site must complete and sign all required forms before joining the group.

Q: My child is in the 8-12 age range so I have to accompany them, but I don’t want to make any artwork. Do I still have to buy a ticket?
A: All attendees must have a ticket, including adults who are accompanying a child but not creating artwork. Tickets are required per person to account for space limitations, not just for those participating in art-making. Don’t forget the facilitator will be happy to help you find art materials that spark your interest!

Q: My child is 13 or older and doesn’t need adult supervision, but needs a ride to and from the art studio. Can I wait at the studio until the event ends?
A: Young teens who need transportation should be dropped off at the start of the session and picked up promptly at the end. Drivers or guardians may not wait or observe inside the studio unless they have purchased a ticket, as space is reserved for registered participants only.

Q: The event wasn’t sold out and I can see that there is enough space for me to watch and wait for my child. Can I sit and wait?
A: Even if the space doesn’t appear to be full, parents and guardians who wish to stay in the studio must purchase a ticket. This keeps the policy fair across all sessions, allows for late arrivals, and prevents the facilitator from having to ask anyone to leave.

Q: I bought a ticket but my plans changed and now I can’t make it. Can I get a refund?
A: Ticket prices remain the same regardless of arrival time, and no discounts are offered for late arrivals. All ticket sales are final.

Q: What if I drop my child off and I am late picking them up?
A: Children must be picked up promptly at the end of the session. The facilitator is not responsible for supervising or waiting after the session ends.

Q: Can I bring food or a drink?
A: Food and drinks, aside from sealable water bottles, are not allowed in the studio to prevent spills and protect artwork. If you have a specific health concern affected by this policy, please let the facilitator know.

Q: I’m not very experienced with making art. Can the facilitator help me?
A: The facilitator can offer assistance as time allows, but may be occupied with leading group exercises or helping other participants.

Q: Some of the sign up dates look like they are themed. Do I have to make artwork that follows the theme for that day?
A: While some sessions have a theme, ticketholders are free to use any available art materials, create independently, or follow alternative prompts provided.

Q: The open studio is led by an art therapist. Is this an art therapy group?
A: While the Open Studio Art Group is facilitated by a provisionally registered art therapist, it isn’t a clinical art therapy session. Instead, it’s a welcoming, community art space where you can explore creativity, self-expression, and connection at your own pace. The facilitator’s art therapy background simply helps her guide participants toward materials and approaches that best support their creative goals. Please note that this group is not a substitute for therapy or professional mental health care, but rather a space to enjoy the benefits of making art in a supportive, relaxed environment.

Q: Can I take my artwork home with me?
A: All artwork should be taken home at the end of each open studio to keep it safe and prevent it from being accidentally discarded due to storage limits. If a participant wishes to continue a project across multiple sessions, they are responsible for bringing it back.

Q: I want to come to the open studio but I can’t afford it. Can I receive a discounted rate?
A: We have giveaways for free tickets! Only participants from the most recent session are entered, so every new session brings a fresh chance to win.

Q: Can I donate a ticket to someone who cannot afford it?
A: If you’d like to make a donation to help someone who cannot afford a ticket, please speak to the facilitator. Your contribution gives them the opportunity to join and enjoy the studio experience.
